Who can post pets on Petfinder?

  • Municipal Public Shelters

  • Private Shelters

  • Rescues with pets in their direct care

  • Veterinary Clinics who rehome pets

Who is not eligible for Membership?

  • Networking or Referral-Only Groups

  • Pet guardians rehoming their own pet

  • Show or Hobby Breeders

  • Any for-profit pet placement

  • Organizations outside of the United States, Canada, or Mexico

  • Organizations without an adoption contract

What to Expect in the Membership Application Process

1. Complete our Veterinary Verification Form

Complete the form with your veterinarian. Email the form to registration@petfinder.com the same day you complete your online application.

2. Create a personal user account & complete form online

You will first be prompted to create a user account or to log in if you already have one. Complete all application fields as directed, with correct spelling and correct upper and lowercase.

3. Petfinder will review & get back to you

You will be contacted by the Petfinder Outreach Team within 3-5 business days.

What You’ll Need to Apply

  1. Veterinary Verification Form (Vet Form)

    Download the form below and complete it with your veterinarian before submitting your online application. After applying, email it to registration@petfinder.com

  2. If you are a Federally approved Charity: Your Federal Tax ID Number

    If you are a United States 501(c)(3) charity, or Canada or Mexico charity, you will need your EIN (US), Charitable Number (Canada), or Business Number (Mexico). US organizations, if you are unsure you are a federal 501c3 charity, verify you appear in the US Internal Revenue Service charity search here: https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/tax-exempt-organization-search
